Gemmology LIBS Instrument

The modular LIBS system for gemmological applications offers a highly versatile product suitable for the analysis of gemstones, focussed primarily but not exclusively in the detection of Be in sapphires. The use of an ultraviolet laser minimises the interaction with the sample only to its surface. The system features two high resolution imaging cameras that allow close-up colour images to be viewed on a monitor; one camera is viewing the sample surface (top view) and the other is viewing the sample from the side (i.e. at right angles to the axis of the laser beam). The combination of the two cameras facilitates a precise control of the focussing of the laser beam on the surface of the stone and minimizes the damage induced on the sample surface. The detection of Be requires only one spectrometer but the system can be equipped with up to 8 spectrometer channels if required for other applications. Our SC-2L manual sample chamber is recommended for gemstone analysis but the system is compatible with the whole range of our sample chambers.
