An Adaptor Platform is used to integrate a laser head with a LIBS-6 or LIBS-8 module and so is a necessary component of our fully modular laboratory LIBS instruments. The design includes mechanical alignment stops which allow the laser head to be removed from and refitted to the Adaptor Platform without compromising the optical alignment of the laser beam with the downstream components (Mirror Module, LIBS-6 / LIBS-8 module).

We offer a range of Adaptor Platforms to suit a variety of pulsed Nd:YAG lasers from manufacturers including Litron, Quantel (Lumibird), Big Sky (Lumibird), Ekspla, Innolas, etc, examples of which are illustrated below.

The Adaptor Platform may be used with a Mirror Module to fold the laser beam line through 90 degrees, as illustrated below using the AP-Bernoulli Adaptor Platform as an example.

The Mirror Module contains a high-precision and high-stability mount for the fold mirror, with the addition of a linear translation stage to aid alignment of the laser beam. Optical alignment is conducted at our factory and realignment by the user should not be necessary.

Use of a Mirror Module is necessary when using our larger “top entry” sample chambers such as the SC-2L, SC-2XL and XYZ-750 (link to Modular Sample Chambers page). The Adaptor Platform, Mirror Module and LIBS-6 / LIBS-8 module utilise precision dowel pins between mating surfaces to maintain correct optical alignment when fitted together, allowing the user to reconfigure the modular LIBS instrument if desired.
When used with one of our “top entry” modular sample chambers, two triangular-shaped brackets are fitted to the top of the sample chamber. These allow fitting of the Adaptor Platform assembly to the sample chamber as illustrated below.
